چکیده

Background For radiological protection and control, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) provides nominal risk coefficients related to radiation exposure, which can be extrapolated using excess relative absolute obtained from Life Span Study of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima Nagasaki with dose dose-rate effectiveness factor (DDREF). Materials Methods Since it is impossible directly estimate at doses less than approximately 100 mSv only epidemiological knowledge data, support biology absolutely imperative, thus, several national international bodies have advocated importance bridging between epidemiology. Because accident Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO)’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Station 2011, exposure public has become a major concern was considered that estimation should more realistic cope prevailing situation. Results Discussion To discuss issues wide aspects protection, realize epidemiology, we established research group develop low-dose low-dose-rate methodology, permission Japan Health Physics Society. Conclusion The aim clarify current situation viewpoints different fields, such as biology, modeling, dosimetry, identify future strategy roadmap elucidate against exposure. Scientific Risk Estimation on Health Effects of Low Dose and Low Dose-Rate Radiation - An Overview

Estimation of the scientific risks of high dose radiation has been successfully quantified by many studies using several different approaches. However, the risk for low and low dose-rate radiation is obscure because of a lack of evidence. This risk is currently estimated by extrapolating the radiation response at high doses into low dose ranges for practical purposes. Recent challenges to exami...

New insight into cancer risks from radiation exposure of low dose and low dose rate

For example, the Chernobyl accident caused the deposition of radioisotopes over wide areas of the Northern Hemisphere, in particular in Europe ( Atlas of Caesium Deposition on Europe after the Chernobyl Accident, 1998), followed by protracted chronic exposure of some millions of people to external and internal radiation. You can see the map of radioactive contamination of Europe after the Chern...

Low-dose or low-dose-rate ionizing radiation–induced bioeffects in animal models

Animal experimental studies indicate that acute or chronic low-dose ionizing radiation (LDIR) (≤100 mSv) or low-dose-rate ionizing radiation (LDRIR) (<6 mSv/h) exposures may be harmful. It induces genetic and epigenetic changes and is associated with a range of physiological disturbances that includes altered immune system, abnormal brain development with resultant cognitive impairment, catarac...

Dose-rate effects and dose and dose-rate effectiveness factor on frequencies of chromosome aberrations in splenic lymphocytes from mice continuously exposed to low-dose-rate gamma-radiation.

Dose-rate effects on chromosome aberrations in the low-dose-rate range have not been evaluated previously. The incidences of chromosome aberrations were analysed in splenic lymphocytes from female specific pathogen-free (SPF) C3H mice that were continuously irradiated with low- or medium-dose-rate (LDR, MDR) (137)Cs γ rays from 56 days of age to evaluate the dose-rate effects. The dose-response...

Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative (MELODI): strategic research agenda for low dose radiation risk research

MELODI (Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative) is a European radiation protection research platform with focus on research on health risks after exposure to low-dose ionising radiation. It was founded in 2010 and currently includes 44 members from 18 countries. A major activity of MELODI is the continuous development of a long-term European Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) on low-dose r...
